of Cornwall & Devon

The OLFCD Steering Group

Rose Barnecut
I run the family farm, which has just become fully organic, in mid-Cornwall with my brother. It is traditional mixed arable and livestock with 250 ewes and 90 cattle. I have been a member of CQLP for 10 years and am now a director on their board

The Moon family has farmed Bolitho Farm for the last 120 years as a tenant of the Bolitho Estate Penzance. It has always been a mixed farm and currently carries 140 South Devon cattle and 400 breeding sheep. All the stock is fed from home grown forage, so converting to Organic farming has been a natural progression. Full Organic status will be achieved in October 2001
Jim Candy
I farm at Trerieve Farm, Downderry, in South East Cornwall and am married with 4 sons. The 250 acre rented farm carries 35 suckler cows and 350 breeding ewes as well as growing arable crops and veg for a local veg box scheme. I am an Organo-Phosphate (sheep dip) sufferer and the Organic Farming Scheme has allowed me to achieve my ambition to convert to organic farming and have just finished conversion

I farm Great Moreton with my wife Jemima. The 212 acre farm was certified Organic in 1993. We run a 43 cow single suckled herd, producing stores and finished cattle, we have also produced vegetables for a local box scheme and cereals for on farm use. Five young children help make our life on the farm chaotic but enjoyable
Geoffrey Maddever
I farm 260 ha organically with my son Giles at Hall Barton, the family owned farm and at Wayland, a Duchy of Cornwall farm. Enterprises are Sheep, Red Deer, Beef and Cereals. A five year rotation is used, Cereals - Beans/Lupins - Cereals - 2yr SAS (Red clover & ryegrass). I am a founder member of the Kernow and Tamar grain groups

I am a Councillor on West Devon Borough Council and as well as sitting on other committees is chair of Waste Reduction and Recycling, LA21, Best Value and is Deputy Mayor. I am Treasurer of Tavistock Farmers Market Association
Jo Rider
East Penrest is a 120 acre organic beef and sheep farm, in a South facing valley running down to the River Inney. We have been fully organic since February 1998. We have pedigree South Devon suckler cows and Lleyn sheep, and supplement the farm income with holiday lets in a converted barn
